Guidelines for Presenting at CaféLitt

A set of guidelines has been designed in order to facilitate and streamline future presentations at CaféLitt. The following items need to be submitted when a request for presentation is put forth to CaféLitt:
  • A short and clear title of the talk
  • An abstract (maximum 200 words long) that gives the potential audience a clear idea of what to expect from the presentation
  • An image and a link(s) to related material, background reading, etc.
  • A brief bio (CV) of the presenter (e.g., education, relevant work experience, publications, etc.) for the purpose of introduction
  • The language in which the talk will be given
  • Request for audiovisual aids (e.g., LCD projector, speakers, etc.) ONLY if it is absolutely necessary for the proper presentation of the content (e.g., video clips, sound bites, images, etc.)
In addition, please take note of these guidelines for preparing your talk/presentation:
Each session of CaféLitt is scheduled for 2 hours.
A concise and well-planned talk should last no more than 45-50 minutes.
In keeping with CaféLitt’s tradition, the remainder of the time is set aside for asking questions and/or engaging the audience in the discussion.
Presenters can choose one of following three formats for structuring their talk
A single coherent presentation for 45 minutes followed by Q&A/discussion for the rest of the time.
A two-part presentation of 25 minutes each with a Q&A/discussion period of 15-20 minutes in the middle.
A free-format presentation where the presenter answers questions along the way. In this case, a total presentation time of 75 minutes is ideal, with the rest of the time allocated to discussion.
Presenters are encouraged to submit links and materials following their session for additional reading. These materials and/or links will be posted on the CaféLitt website for the audience to follow up after the presentation.

About us

CaféLitt is not a place; it is a gathering of minds. We are a group of mostly Persian young students, scholars and professionals who gather every Thursday evening around 19h00 in a café to discuss various subjects and share different ideas, ranging vastly from history to science, from literature to fine arts. We started these gatherings on Jan 18th, 2007. Each week, one of us takes the responsibility of presenting a topic (in Persian, English or French) for about an hour in a subject s/he is intimately familiar with or has an expertise in. Afterwards, the evening turns into a discussion forum and all members of the audience will have an opportunity to ask their question(s) and share their points of view.
CaféLitt is open to all comments, suggestion, collaboration and new ideas. CaféLitt provides an unparalleled opportunity for learning about culture, science and philosophy in a relaxed and friendly environment, and for sharing your knowledge and expertise with like-minded members of your community.
CaféLitt is officially registered as a non-profitable group and is a nonpartisan, nonreligious and nonpolitical entity.
